membership ... commitment & involvement

Being a member of Rotary involves a commitment, both in terms of time and some cost:

  • Each club has an annual fee, generally payable in two half-yearly installments.  The Rotary Club of Belconnen attempts to keep this fee as low as possible.  Our fee is one of the lowest of local clubs.

  • There is also a personal involvement "cost" - time and effort.

Up front, there is an expectation that you will attend at least 60% of club meetings each half year.  The Rotary Club of Belconnen meets each Wednesday evening at the Belconnen Soccer Club in Hawker, some exceptions apply. This is a dinner meeting where the cost of the two course meal (including bread roll, tea or coffee) is presently $20-00 per person.

Each member is assigned to one of the club's various committees.  These committees generally meet on a regular basis, maybe monthly for an hour or so, to examine the merits of requests for support, and whether the club is able to provide assistance at this time.  Sometimes this may be in terms of a cash or in-kind contribution.  On other occasions support may be provided by alternate methods (eg: a working bee or BBQ).

Finally, there is the Belconnen Trash and Treasure Market at the Jamison Centre, held every Sunday except Christmas.  This market is the primary source of charitable income for the Rotary Club of Belconnen, which in turn provides the opportunity for each and every committee to provide a variety of support to worthwhile causes, whether local, national or international.  The bulk of funds raised are returned within the local community.  All members are rostered to assist in one way or another with the operation of this market.

We expect all of our members to help us raise funds by participation in the running the Trash and Treasure Market. We also expect members to be involved in their committee and as circumstances permit to take part in the social activities of the club.

Should you wish to attend one of our club’s meetings or seek further information, please  contact the  Membership Officer at Membership.
