a brief history ... of 37 years of service
The
Rotary Club of Belconnen (originally known as the Rotary Club of Canberra-Belconnen), was established in February 1971. Early efforts to raise funds for projects and community
support activities started with chocolate wheels, "chook" raffles and
similar activities.
After a trip away, a member returned with the idea of a
"Trash and Treasure" market. And hence was born in September
1974 what today is known as the Rotary Trash'n'Treasure Market at Jamison - a
Canberra Icon.
That original market, in somewhat poor weather, raised just
over $300. Many of the original stall holders operated from their car
boot. It basically resembled a bit of what today is more commonly
known as a "garage sale".
Over 32 years and 1,600 markets later the funds raised to support a variety of
local, national and international community and related projects is now in excess of
$3,500,000.
Today, hours of operation are from 06:00am until
01:00pm every
Sunday.
To be a part of the market is easy, just examine the links
